I have had a dream for some time that I could effect change in the world of music. I have wanted to build a website where Artists could promote themselves and music fans could listen to new music and provide feedback and support, It would be a Music Community.
I wanted it to be a great place to discuss music but also I wanted to make sure it supports the artists and offers them a real chance to have their music heard. By support, I mean real, tangible support in the form of assistance and sales. This is a tough set of goals but I believe in them. This is the starting place.
What Is Different here: A few things. I promise I will work to try to improve the site as requested and I will function as a partner, not an adversary. I also promise this site will be moderated and that the community will be asked to maintain the high standards of human civility and courtesy.
It is my goal to make a place for everyone to have their comments heard and their needs met but also I am interested in redefining the relationship between Music, Artist and Listener. Many people just don’t see the connection between Artists selling their work and their ability to make more, it is the basis on which every business is founded and Artists need a constant stream of income to create. I see music the way I see food, like sustenance, a part of life, a root element. I believe there is a connection between music and some very primal human emotions, this is the hidden attraction, the reason you can become addicted.
For Artists to make money with their music, the whole plan has to change and the myth of the internet as a primary marketing tool must be dispelled. That is my goal, along with finding ways to generate funding some of the best live music events of the next 20 years. Live music is where Artists can trade their talent for an experience that people are ready and willing to pay for. Artist can also sell their music more economically at live events when they don’t have to pay for distribution and the Listener doesn’t have to pay for shipping, or the distribution, the result is a Win – Win relationship between Artist and Listener, all that is needed is the structure around live music to make it all happen.
My vision is to form a community that will address these and other challenges faced by all Artists and come up with real solutions. My goal for my effort is to form a non profit organization with a financial foundation that has as it sole purpose, supporting Independant Artists and helping them find ways to bring their work before larger and larger audiences. Think of this goal as building the infrustructure to support art, The same way we build trains and jets to move people and phonelines to carry information. What is missing is teamwork and planning to bring together information that will benefit all Artists.
